Charles William “Bill" Bray passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on February 23, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on November 7, 1931, in Jerseyville, IL to Eva (Mowen) Bray and Charles Augustus Bray. A veteran of the Korean War, he attended Washington University in St. Louis and Southern Illinois University where he received his B.S. in Business and Economics. Beginning his career in banking, Bill was encouraged to enter the investment brokerage industry where he practiced as a trusted investment advisor for more than 50 years.
He was a devoted husband and father, and an avid golfer who enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and spending time with his family. A man of faith and great integrity, he was genuinely loved by all who came in contact with him.
He was married in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton, IL to Mary Ann Howard on November 18, 1961. They enjoyed a beautiful life together of more than 59 years.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Eva (Mowen) Bray and Charles Augustus Bray, and brothers Milton Lawrence Bray and Wilton James Bray. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann, and children Greg Bray (Jo Ann Sabelli), Ann Bray Wildman (Mark), Kathy Ann Miller (Mark), and Elizabeth Ann Borchers (Jeff). He will be missed dearly by his seven grandchildren Jack and Kate Wildman, Luke and Clare Miller, and Mary, Eva and Allie Borchers.
Visitation will be at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf in Godfrey on Saturday, February 27th from 9-10:30 am. The funeral mass will follow at 11 am at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton, followed by interment.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing, occupancy, and mask wearing guidelines will be followed as mandated by the CDC.
