Diana Behrendt

Diana Jean Behrendt, age 77 of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon.

She was born June 13, 1943, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of the late Milton & Hilda (Gusewelle) Brakhane. Diana is survived by her husband of 57 years, Darrell “Fritz” Behrendt, whom she married on February 1, 1964, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, Illinois.

She is also survived by two daughters, Felicia Wiley & husband William of Glen Carbon, Dr. Christa Adam & husband Adrian of Beecher, Illinois; four grandchildren, Joseph Adam, Steven Adam, Andrew Wiley, & Marissa Wiley; one brother, Elton Brakhane of Sun City, Arizona; two sisters in law, Ruth Chow Hoy of Bryan, Texas, Donna Judge & husband Keith of Katy, Texas; four godchildren, Terry Brakhane, Tom Meier, Alanna Moore Barker,  Nichole Martinez Nolte; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Diana was preceded in death by three sisters in law, Nancy Barr Brakhane, Helen Thompson, Jeanette Newbold; and four brothers in law, Franklin Thompson, John Newbold, Thomas Chow Hoy and John Robertson.

She moved from Worden, Illinois, to Rosewood Heights, Illinois, in 1957, and graduated from Roxana High School. After graduating from high school Diana went to work for Olin in the Brass Mill as a secretary. She then became a secretary the Metallurgical Engineering Department. Diana moved to Springfield, Illinois, and went to work for Concordia Theological Seminary as a faculty secretary. She then became the secretary for the seminary’s president. After moving back to Edwardsville, Diana went to work for The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod as the secretary in the Marketing Departments of the LCMS Foundation & Lutheran Church Extension Fund. She retired after 25 years with the LCMS. Diana was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville, where she was a member of the Altar Guild, Building Committee, Lutheran Braille Workers, Vacation Bible School, Dorcas Society & Ladies Aid. She was also very involved at the Metro East Lutheran High School where she was a Trinity’s advisory member to MELHS, was a financial secretary of the Board and she also was a pizza server at the high school.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 27th at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. John Shank officiating.

Burial will be at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Worden.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Metro East Lutheran High School, Trinity Lutheran Ministries, Rotary Foundation, St. Jude Hospital or to the donor’s choice.
