Holiday Shores |

Edwin 'Ray' Allen, 77, passed away at 7 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at home in the arms of his loving wife of 55 years.

Ray was born July 15, 1943 in Alton, the son of Harry and Ruth (DeGerlia) Allen.

He was raised in Wood River and had many fond memories of his childhood. Growing up he always had a pass to Wood River swimming pool and was an excellent swimmer and diver. He loved the water and taught his children to swim and ski at an early age. A lot of his teenage years were spent working on his cars. He won numerous drag racing trophies. He was fond of the family trips to Tucson to visit his mother-in-law and fix things for her. Of course, she doted on him as well.

Ray was a 1961 graduate of Wood River High School and a graduate of Bailey Technical School. He retired from McDonnell Douglas/Boeing as a Tool and Die Maker after 35 years of service. He was a 40-year member of District 837 IAMAW.

Ray was a loving a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His favorite pastime was fishing with his daughter and spending time with his son and grandsons. He loved life and tried to make the most of it while fighting many illnesses over the years and never complaining. He always loved family gatherings and entertaining everyone with his stories about fishing or hunting mishaps. He was a man that loved his family and friends with all his heart. Ray was of Baptist faith and prayed for his family, friends, and country.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Thompson) Allen, a son Steven R. Allen of Staunton; a daughter, Teresa Corey and son-in-law, Dan Corey of Holiday Shores; and grandsons Brenden Allen and Chase Allen of Staunton. He is also survived by a brother, David (Nadine) Allen of Florida and a brother-in-law, Jerry (Judy) Thompson of Marion, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother- and father-in-law, John and Ruth Thompson; and brother-in-law, Larry Thompson.

Due to Covid-19 crowd restrictions, private services will be held at Paynic Home for Funerals, with an online guestbook available at www.paynicfh.com

Memorials may be given to the Holiday Shores Fire Protection District.
