CHESTERFIELD, IL. -   Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Chapman, 76, formerly of Jerseyville, died at 2:30 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2020 at Willow Rose Rehab and Health Care in Jerseyville.


He was born in Jerseyville, Illinois on June 25, 1943, and was the son of Homer and Geraldine (Wineland) Chapman.


He graduated from Alton Senior High School, and served his country honorably with the United States Air Force.


He employed for many years as a mechanic for Dobbs Tire & Auto, working at several locations in the St. Louis, Mo. area, and retired from their store in Edwardsville.


He married the former Theresa Schoenberger on Oct. 18, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and together they have shared the past 23 years together.


Surviving are his wife, Theresa Chapman of Chesterfield, IL.; two daughters and sons in-law, Melissa and Dean Tepen of Jerseyville, and Amy and Bryan Schackles of Jerseyville; a step-daughter and her husband, Theresa Reich and Chris Fraley of Sunset Hills, Mo.; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Rue of Berryville, Arkansas; and three sisters, Terrill Woolsey of Laguna Hills, Ca., Janis Butler of Godfrey and Lissa Swan of Dow

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Geraldine and Robert Rue; his father, Homer Chapman; and a nephew, Brian Rue.


Due to the coronavirus, private graveside services will be conducted at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492 conducting military graveside rites.


Memorials may be given to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, in care of Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, who is handling the arrangements.
