Charles Eugene “Charlie” Robertson “Uncle Charlie”, 70 of Mitchell, Illinois passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.

Charlie was born on June 20, 1948 in Fulton, Kentucky; the son of the late William Anderson Robertson and Mary Dorothy (Latham) Scribner.

Charlie was the owner and operator of B&D Pest Control for many years until his retirement in 2012. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country in the Vietnam War, serving 2 tours of duty and where he earned a Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and a Combat Infantryman Badge.

Charlie was a member of the Granite City V.F.W. and the Granite City D.A.V. In his free time he enjoyed his days of racing and building cars, riding motorcycles and fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Charlie will be remembered for his jokester personality and all the special times he shared with his family and friends.

Charlie is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Jody D. (Clark) Robertson, whom he married on March 11, 2017; his children, Beatrice Robertson, Amber Whittington (Danny Mendosa), David Robertson, Charles (Kim) Robertson Jr.; grandchildren, Jorden Whittington, Mycah Be lann (Michael) Crawford, Charleene Nicole Robertson (Jason Rodriguez), Mackenkie Lauren Robertson, Oakley Landon Robertson; great-grandchildren, Brydon Lane Harris, William Alexander Cole Harris, Ian Ky Harris, Michael Allen Crawford II, Elijah Tate Rodriguez; sister, Jane (Jeff) Johnson; brothers, Dave (Barbara) Robertson, Mike (Candy) Scribner; best friends, Bobby McGee and Keith Dauble.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his daughter in 2013.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Charlie’s life, services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Edward Linhart officiating.

Burial will follow with full military rites at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Memorial donations are suggested to Shriners Hospital or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
