Dorothy Eloise (Evans) Butkovich, 96, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Carolinas Healthcare Systems Hospital in Pineville, N.C. with her family at her side.
Born Feb. 26, 1922 in Pittsfield, IL, she was a daughter of George and Leila (Neff) Evans.
She married Peter G. Butkovich Feb. 7, 1948 in Wood River. He preceded her in death Jan. 21, 2016.
Eloise was a kind and caring person, who loved her family dearly. Always known to be a good listener, she was a beautiful person, both inside and out.
In her early work career, Eloise worked as an inspector at the Olin Corporation. Years later she retired from the Housekeeping Department at the Wood River Township Hospital.
After retirement, her favorite pastimes were traveling with her husband, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and David Ringering of Lake Wylie, S.C.; a son, James Butkovich of Wood River; two grandchildren and their spouses, Derek and Kelly Ringering and Rachel and Michael Wasserman; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Olivia Wasserman; a sister, Wilma Weder of Winchester, IL; and a brother, Paul Evans of Chapin, IL.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mildred Smith, Katherine Pagel, and Mary Jane Lawshe; and five brothers, Harold, Eugene, Hubert, Kenneth, and Gary Evans.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 25 at Paynic Home for Funerals. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Apr. 26 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River, with Father Donald Wolford as Celebrant.
Burial will follow at Woodland Hill Cemetery in East Alton.
