Daisy A. Leach-LewisDaisy Allene Diuguid Leach-Lewis, 95, went to be with the Lord at 8:40 a.m. on April 18, 2018 at her residence at United Methodist Village in Godfrey.  Daisy was born Dec. 30, 1922 in Bush, IL. She was the eldest of nine children of the late Frank Nelson and Eva Louise (Endicott) Diuguid.  She had previously been married to the late Richard “Dick” Carr; Don R. Leach, Sr.; and Charles Lewis Sr., all of whom preceded her in death.  She is survived by her daughter Sandra K. Truax of Lombard, IL, and her son Frank D. Leach of Martin, TN.  Five of her sisters and brothers also survive: Imogene Brown of Cottage Hills, Claudette (Marvin) Eatmon of Brighton, Willis (Paula) Diuguid of Cottage Hills, David (Betty) Diuguid of New Smynth Beach, FL, and Phil (Kim) Diuguid of Caroltonville, IL and her sister-in-law Dolly Pavish Diuguid of Dorsey.In addition, she is survived by six step sons and daughters:  Charles (Alice) Lewis Jr. of Fosterburg; Ronald (Judy) Lewis of Lewistown, MT; Kenneth (Billie) Lewis of Laurel, MT; Betty (Mike) Welch of Colorado Springs, CO; Peggy Baker of Brighton; and Linda Scheffel of Alton.In addition to her previous husbands, she was preceded in death by her sisters Capitola “Cappy” Gosenheider (Duane) and Francine Lewis (Alvin) and her brother Richard “Dick” Diuguid (Dolly).  Also preceding her were stepson Don (Arzella) Leach Jr. of Litchfield; Patricia “Patty” Lewis Cason; Robert E. Lewis; and Judy Lewis Summers.In the 1940s, Daisy worked briefly at Owens-Illinois, the Alton Box Board, and Olin-Mathenis/Western Cartridge.  She also served as a waitress in Miami, FL for a brief period during the war.For thirty years she worked with her then husband at Don Leach Grocery on Milton Road.  After closing the business, she was employed as a clerk at College Ave. Market before working for Paul Davis & Sons in Cottage Hills and later East Alton.A member of Brown Street Baptist Church for more than sixty years, Daisy enjoyed serving as greeter and on the kitchen committee.  It was important to her that her home remained open to the young people of both the church and the greater community throughout her life.For more than ten years, she volunteered at Oasis Center in downtown Alton.Upon deciding to move her residency to United Methodist Village, she enjoyed being a volunteer and participate as a resident host, on various committees, and to continue her lifelong pleasure of working with flowers.She extended her activities to both locations and careers of her daughter and son.  Over the years, she willing volunteered her time and talents with young people. She enjoyed the opportunity to assist the teachers and staff of Butterfield School in Lombard opening their school and classes for the new school year.  She welcomed young people from around the world into her own home in Alton and was identified as their American “grandmother” in Martin and upon their return home.Visitation will be Friday, April 20, 2018. from  10:00 am until time of the funeral service at 11:00 am at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Upper Alton, with Pastor David Conrad officiating.Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to United Methodist Village in Godfrey, Heartland Hospice, or Good Shepherd’s Home c/o Brown St. Baptist Church Online condolences may be made at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
