James Kilmer

James Allen Kilmer, 88, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 10:20 am at Willow Rose Nursing Home in Jerseyville.

He was born on April 25, 1929 in Maunie, IL, the son of Daniel M. Kilmer and Zola Hatcher, both preceded him in death. James married Betty Lou Clayton on July 28, 1956 in East Alton, IL, she survives.

James was a veteran of the United States Army.  He worked as a Drafting Engineer at Olin for 35 years.  He was a member of the VFW and Bethalto Masonic Lodge # 406 and a member of Shriner’s.  He loved doing a daily crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy daily. James was a serious Cardinals Baseball fan, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by three children, Cynthia (Bert) Griffin of Bethalto, Allan (Valerie) Kilmer of Brighton and John (Julie) Kilmer of Moro; three grandchildren, Heather (Scott) Kruchowski, Melissa Rulo-Ramirez, Braxton Kilmer; and four great grandchildren, Joshua, Olivia, Logan and Estella.

James was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marie Smothers and Jane Allene Rhoads-Taylor; and a brother, Daniel T. Kilmer.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 10:30 am until time of service at 12 pm, Pastor Terry McKinzie will officiate, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is in charge of all arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
