Jerry Toombs

Jerry L. Toombs, 70, passed away at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon.

Born May 12, 1947 in Evansville, IN, he was a son of James A. Toombs, Sr. and Lois Marie (Musgrave) Toombs.

Jerry was raised in Fairfield, IL, and after he graduated from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving a tour in Vietnam.  He worked as a tool & die maker for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing and later for Olin Corp.  Jerry enjoyed woodworking and the St. Louis Cardinals, and he also was a fan of NASCAR.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He married Joyce Rohr Nov. 27, 1971 in Olney, IL.  She survives, as well as two daughters, Leah (Brian) Koehne of Sycamore, IL and Lanie (Jess) Buttry of Sherman, IL; three grandchildren, Abigail Koehne, Dax Buttry, and Paisley Buttry; a sister, Wilma Cummins of Decatur, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alyssa Koehne; a sister, Wanda Jamerson; a brother, James A. Toombs, Jr.; and his parents.

Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 25 at Paynic Home for Funerals.

Burial will be at a later date at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Jerry’s family would like to thank the staffs at San Gabriel Assisted Living and Eden Village Care Center, both of Glen Carbon, and also Hospice of Southern Illinois for the loving care they all provided for him.

Memorials may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
