Maurice Kennedy

Maurice “Moe” R. Kennedy, age 83, of Alton, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 under the care of Heartland Hospice at Integrity Healthcare of Godfrey.He was born March 31, 1934, in Alton, IL, the son of Maurice B. and Gwendolyn Kennedy. Moe married Kathryn “Kay” Travis on July 30, 1955.Moe joined the United States Marine Corps in 1954 after graduating from Alton High School in 1953 where he enjoyed playing football and track. He also attended SIUC. He was a longtime member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kay; and their three sons and their spouses, Mark (Teresa) Kennedy of Edwardsville, IL, Scott Kennedy of St. Petersburg, FL, Kyle (Dawn) Kennedy of Godfrey, IL; five grandchildren, Sydney Kennedy, Sawyer Kennedy, Lindsey Kennedy, Tyler Kennedy, and Hilary-Harris (Bryan) Crites; and five great-grandchildren.After leaving The United States Marine Corps, he became a Union Plumber in the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 553 and retired after 30 years.After his retirement from Local 553, Moe and Kay enjoyed traveling many miles and camping. They visited many National Parks, Civil War Sites, and other great places.Moe was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading about history. He also enjoyed being involved with his sons in Boy Scouts.As per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded without any services.
