Maurice Eugene Wenzel, 94, died at 1:02 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018 at his home in Godfrey. Born September 15, 1923 in Alton, he was the son of Harry and Edith (Huber) Wenzel. He graduated from Marquette Catholic High School and was a lifelong member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He retired from Owens Illinois Glass machine shop after 37 ½ years of service. He donated his retirement years helping others through the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Meal on Wheels. He married the former Mary Catherine Davey. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2011. Surviving is a son, August Wenzel (Diane) of Cheyenne, WY, two daughters, Diane Doran (Tom) of Godfrey and Judy Harris of Las Vegas, NV, eight grandchildren, Carrie Epstein, Erik Monical, Clayton Monical (Robin), Maredith Neal (Brenden), Ben Harris, Sarah Purcell (Wylie), Abigail Bagwill (Kevin) and Millie Decker (Christopher), and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are dear friends, Don Harvey and George Evans “Popeye”. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Monical, a son, Brian Wenzel, a brother, Harold Wenzel and a sister, Betty Cox. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton and continue from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Father Jason Stone will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
