Joseph Pyatt

Joseph C. Pyatt, 94, died at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at his residence. He was born October 13, 1923 in St. Louis, the son of the late Earl and Olivia (Barbara) Pyatt. During WWII he served as an airplane mechanic in the Pacific theater as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corp. He worked as a manager for Braun Automotive which later became know as AID Inc. in Alton. He retired from St. Peters Hardware in Alton at the age of 89. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a 4th degree Knights of Columbus where he had been a past faithful navigator. He was a part of the group who started the Saint Vincent DePaul Society at St. Mary’s, and was an active member of the East End Improvement Association. On February 7, 1947 he married Louise (Hook) and she preceded him in death on August 11, 2006. Surviving are one daughter, Tina Murphy (Dennis) of Chesterfield, MO, four grandchildren, Bradley Pyatt (April Birch) of Alton, Mindy McElyer (Glenn) of Alton, Megan Judy (Cliff) of Columbia, MO, Amanda Murphy of Wentzville, MO and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Greg Pyatt and one granddaughter, Melissa McElyea. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28th with Father John Luong OMV officiating. Burial with full military honors from VFW Post 1308 ritual team will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent’s Depaul or Post 1308 VFW Ritual Team.
