Vera Bierbaum

Brighton |

Vera M. Bierbaum, 90, of Brighton, Illinois, stepped into Glory on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 10 AM at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born April 2, 1927, in Southern Missouri, she was the eldest of three children born to the late Otis and Reba Johnson. She was an active member of Fosterburg Baptist Church and served the Lord throughout her life. On November 30, 1946, she married Dudley L. Bierbaum; he preceded her in death on May 1, 1993. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Bierbaum and siblings, Gene Johnson of Houston, Texas, and Joan Johnson Kowalewski of Chicago. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Bierbaum, of Brighton, daughter-in-law, Jean Bierbaum of Alton, grandchildren, Brett (Barbara) of Kentucky, Sarah (Scott) Folmnsbee of Alton and Greta Bierbaum of Alton, great grandchildren, Lauren, Katie, Abigail, Colton, Liza and Cora.

Vera loved to learn and pass that learning through teaching. She began her teaching career in 1945 at Hines School on the Woodburn Road. In 1962 she developed a kindergarten program at Berean Baptist Church in Bunker Hill, and then in 1970 began to teach kindergarten at Faith Christian School in Florissant, Missouri; she retired in 1991. She loved to study God’s Word and participate in learning and teaching via Bible Study Fellowship, Sunday School classrooms, AWANA, and Vacation Bible School programs. She loved to sing the praises of her Lord, to share enthusiastically the Bible verses which she memorized, and to discuss Bible characters and truths. She was a prayer warrior and earnestly brought friends and family before the Lord on a daily basis. Her caring spirit and earnest love for others will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be from 4 – 8 PM on Tuesday, February 20 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton and 9 – 11 AM on Wednesday, February 21 at Fosterburg Baptist Church in Fosterburg. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Fosterburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Missionary Acres via Fosterburg Baptist Church.
