Matthew Meyer

Matthew M. Meyer, 78, died at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Alhambra Care Center.  Born March 21, 1939 in Alton, he was the son of the late Matthew M. Meyer Sr. and Mildred (Jones) Meyer.  Mr. Meyer served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1961 and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton.  He retired from Illinois Bell/Ameritech in 1993 after 31 years of service. On December 29, 1960 he married the former Doris M. Geisler in Alton.  She preceded him in death on May 10, 1971.  He married Gloria Lynn Ray on August 11, 1973 in Alton.  She preceded him in death on December 1, 2013.  Surviving are three daughters, Joyce A. Meyer of Highland, IL, Janice Louise Ervin (Russell) of Austin, TX, and Cheyenne Meyer of Godfrey, three sons, Mark J. Meyer (Brenda) of Godfrey, Aaron D. Meyer (Lauren) of Springdale, Arkansas, and Andrew Paul Meyer of Godfrey.  Also surviving are four grandchildren, Andrew Richards (Jenna), Matthew Olguin (Brittany), Ethan Meyer, and Claire Meyer, three great grandchildren, Hallie and Eden Richards, and Kiera Olguin, three brothers, Charles Lewis Meyer (Judy) of South Roxana, Thomas E. Meyer (Pat) Clear Water, FL, and David E. Meyer of Tampa, FL, and two sisters, Susie Meyer of Tampa, FL, and Jean Brewer of Colby, KS.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna M. Jensen.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018.  Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate.  Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.  Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Alton.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
