Clyde Miller

Clyde (Cobb) V. Miller, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 6:15 p.m. at Cedarhurst of Bethalto with his family at his side.  Mr. Miller was a lifelong resident of Fosterburg until his recent move to Bethalto.

He was born on May 15, 1925 in Fosterburg to Joe and Nell (Gray) Miller.

On November 8, 1974 he married Marilyn Gillis and she survives.

Mr. Miller served in the US Navy during WWII on the PC1120, serving most of his time in the Pacific.  At a surprise party on February 10, 2018, he was presented with the medals he had earned during the War which had been lost.  In July, 2014, he took an Honor Flight to Washington, DC accompanied by his daughter.

Miller was employed at Olin Corporation for 40 years, retiring in 1990.  He was a lifetime member of the Alton VFW post 1308 and was a member of the Fosterburg Cemetery Association for many years.  In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, hunting, trap shooting and sports.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Judy (Darrell) Slimick of Bethalto, a sister, Jean of Jerseyville, a granddaughter, Kristi (Kevin) Cook of Staunton, two grandsons, Jeff (Karen) Slimick of Channahon, IL and Tim (April) Curran of Milton, FL. He is survived by five great grandchildren, Leah and Lucas Cook of Staunton, Taylor Knudson of Channahon, Adrianna Curran of Milton, FL., Bailee Droweinga of Jacksonville, FL.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly, extended family and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Kenneth Miller, Glen Miller and Donald Miller; a daughter, Belinda Curran; a granddaughter, Kelli Droweinga, and an infant great granddaughter, Madelyn Cook.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Burial will follow at Fosterburg Cemetery with military rites conducted by Alton VFW Post 1308 and The Patriot Guard.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alton VFW Post 1308 Ritual Team or the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight.
