Dr. Richard Lee Butler

Dr. Richard Lee Butler, 72, died Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO. Born September 15, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of James Gilbert and Olga (Radojits) Butler. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Butler had a cardiologist practice in Alton during the 1980’s and then worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital E.R. before moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 2005. In 2008 he settled in Robinsonville, MS where he worked for North Oak Hospital in Senatobia, MS for seven years before retiring. He enjoyed dining out, hiking, traveling, riding bikes and spending time with friends. On May 14, 1993 he married the former Barbara Valdes-Floyd in Elsah, IL. She survives. Also surviving are two step-sons, Jason Floyd and Patrick Floyd, three grandchildren, Emily, Colby and Connor Floyd, two great grandchildren, Kingston and Kevin Floyd, and a brother, James “Jim” Butler (Cathy Gouldin, M.D.). Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Father Jason Stone will officiate.
