Gladys Marie Abell, age 93, passed away at 1:45 pm on January 13 2018, at Bethalto Care Center in Bethalto, Illinois, with her loving family by her side under the care of BJC Hospice.
She was born on July 14, 1924, in Hartford, IL, the daughter of the late Wm and Maggie (Behman) Retzer. Gladys was married to Charles L. Abell on March 14, 1953 in AR. He passed away on February 18, 1988.
Gladys was employed at Stork Cleaners in Alton for 17 years were she was a presser. She enjoyed golfing and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren
She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Karen & Richard DuPatz of Alton; two grandchildren, Ryan (Jamie) DuPatz of Imperial, MO and Katie DuPatz with her companion, Jason Alcorn of Dittmer, MO and one sister, Bertha Dean of Alton.
Gladys is also preceded in death by her parents; husband and three sisters, Sylvia Fessler.
Goldie Brown and Cleta Ursch and two brothers, Clifford Retzer and Harry Retzer.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am until time of service at 11:30 am Tuesday, January, 16, 2018, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Jason Pierce officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
