Herbert Herrmann

Herbert Charles Herrmann, 88, formerly of Hardin, died at 9:25 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.He was born in Brussels on February 23, 1929, the last surviving of ten children born to Henry and Alma (Kulp) Herrmann. Growing up on the family farm in the Brussels/Golden Eagle area, he learned the value of hard work and self reliance.   He served his country admirably with the United States Army during the Korean War.A resident of Hardin for many years, prior to moving to Jerseyville in 1995, Herbert was a well known and respected mechanic at Calhoun County Ford in Hardin, retiring in 1991 after many years of dedicated service.Surviving are a daughter and son in-law, Ruth and William Burchell of Monongahela, Pa.; two sons and a daughter in-law, Daniel and Diane Herrmann of Hardin and Dennis Herrmann of Springfield; his two grandchildren, Adam and Abigail Herrmann, both of Hardin; and his daughter Debra's, fiance', Gregory McCarry of Jerseyville.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Debra Katherine Stumpf on June 29, 2016; five brothers, Albert, Arthur, Elmer, Robert and Raymond Herrmann; and four sisters, Lillian "Lilly" Wieneke, Violet Schulze, Ella Hagen and Pauline Peters.At his request, his body has been cremated, and a public service will be held in the early Spring of 2018, and will be announced through Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, who has been entrusted with the arrangement
