Richard Carr

Richard L. Carr, 70, went to be with the Lord at 7:06 a.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.

Richard was born December 8, 1946 in Pittsfield. He was a son of the late William R. and Florine E. (Whittker) Carr.

On September 26, 1967 he and the former Connie Jones were married. She went to be with the Lord on April 29, 1997. Richard then married the former Susan C. Feyerabend on November 7, 1998. She survives.

Richard worked as a forklift operator at Olin Corporation in East Alton for 20 years, retiring in 2009.

Also surviving are two step daughters, Deana and Nick Keller of Florence, Montana, Daniell and Tim Francis of Ellisville, MO; a step-son, Christopher Carr of Mattoon; four step-grandchildren, Riley Francis, Kinsey Francis, Dagay Keller and Paul Keller; he was like a father to Brian and Tara Kieninger of Springfield, Christopher and Susie Strong of Forsyth, MO, and like a grandfather to Mia and Seth Kieninger, Corgan and Carlie Strong; one sister Shirley Wells and her husband Leonard of KY; mother-in-law, Alice Burrows of Wood River; sisters-in-law, Celeste Vincellette of Madonna Georgia, Betty Sims and her husband Tom of Bunker Hill, Patricia Magary of AZ; Brothers-in-Law, Richard Jones and his wife Jaun of Baytown, TX, Richard Feyerabend and his wife Patricia of Marshville, MO; many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents and wife Connie, Richard was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Carr.

Richard was a Vietnam War, P.O.W. Army veteran. He had numerous medals that included purple hearts.

He was a life time member of DAV, the Christian Motorcycle Association, the Hollister Light house Church in Hollister, MO, and the Wood River Kiwanis Club. He rode with several motorcycle groups in the greater Alton area.

A celebration of Richard’s life will begin at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2017 at Gray Funeral Home with Pastor Daryl Fansler officiating.

The Patriot Guard will lead the Procession to Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, where Jack Hyatte will speak.

As an Army P.O. W. Veteran, Richard will be given Full Military Honors.

Richard will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Memorials may be given to the family.
