Hubert Downer

Hubert “Dean” Downer, 84, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family.He was born February 23, 1933, in Hartford, Illinois, son of the late Frank and Thelma (Sparks) Downer.Dean married Mary Ellen Goode on June 30, 1951, in Salem, Illinois. She preceded him in death on November 5, 1998. Dean later married Donna Lee Sisk on October 7, 2004 in Chesterfield, Missouri. She survives.Prior to retirement, Dean worked as a design supervisor for Monsanto. He was a member of Bonhomme Presbyterian Church in Chesterfield, Missouri, Moose Lodge # 1349, in Wood River, Illinois, and Board of Religious Organizations (BRO) where he repaired toys for Christmas. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed St. Louis Cardinals Baseball, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was actively involved in Khoury League Baseball, coaching his children and many others.In addition to his wife, survivors include three children and their spouses, Duane and Robin Downer, Shelia and Bill Ludwig, Darel and Corby Downer; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew and Cassie Downer, Amy Downer (Daniel Sumner), Sarah and Nathan Crockett, Benjamin and Christine Downer, Cory Downer (Katie LaCoax), Michelle and Scott Lucas, Scott Ludwig, Anna Downer (Chris Evans), Brian Downer; and eleven great grandchildren.In addition to his first wife Mary, he was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Dick Downer and Rose Wafford.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017, at the funeral home.Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Glen Carbon.Memorials may be made to Board of Religious Organizations.An online condolence and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com.
