Wilma Kahl

Wilma Eileen Kahl, 100, of Jerseyville, died at 11:28 p.m., Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the JerseyvilleManor Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for just the last 10 days. She was born west of Barnett in Macoupin County on Dec. 21, 1916, and was the daughter of the late Roy L. and Mary Elna (Lancaster) Johnston.Wilma possessed an independent and determined spirit, and considered herself very fortunate to have been able to live independently up until the last days of her life.   She was a loving individual, and took great pride in her family,  and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville for many years.She married Henry L. Kahl on Dec. 23, 1936 in Carlinville, and together they were blessed with 67 years of marriage prior to his death on March 25, 2003.She is survived by a daughter, Lucerne "Lu" Edwards of Grafton;  three grandchildren and their spouses, Rick and Teresa Edwards of Grafton, Robin and Thomas Virbicus of Sikesville, Md., and Todd Edwards of Grafton; five great grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan and Trish Edwards of Jerseyville, Justin and Crystal Edwards of Alton, Christopher Virbicus of Mt. Laurel, NJ., Michael and Jenny Virbicus of Leesburg, Va., and Daniel Virbicus of Sikesville, Md.;  and two great great grandchildren, Ethan Edwards and Zoey Edwards, and one due in July.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son in law, Thomas Edwards; a sister, Dorothy Crays; and two brothers, Oren Johnston and Derl Johnston.Visitation will be from 10 a.m., Tuesday until time of funeral services at 12 noon at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to either the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville or to the Blessing Hospice of Greene County.
