Myrtle Vantrease

Myrtle M. Vantrease, 88, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Bethalto Care Center.She was born on September 8, 1928, in Alton the daughter of Thomas and Lola (Howard) Stevens.Myrtle married Don W. Vantrease on June 22, 1949, in Alton. He preceded her in death in May of 1991.Myrtle was a long-time member of Elm Street Presbyterian Church in Alton where she was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher for several years. She worked for Alton School District in the food service department for many years, and she was also active in Girl Scouts as a troop leader. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.Survivors include her children, Mark (Susan Spineto) Vantrease of Alton, Debbie Vantrease of Irving, TX; two grandchildren, Christopher M. Vantrease of Austin, TX, and Angela E. Vantrease of Alton; and two siblings, Edward Stevens of Indianapolis, IN, and Rosie Buchholz of Fulton, Missouri.In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents.Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, with Chaplain Jason Pierce officiating.Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.Memorials may be directed to the Girl Scouts of America.
