Major James D. “Doug” Hill Sr

Retired Major James D. “Doug” Hill Sr., 85, died at 3:07 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital.  Born August 4, 1931 in East St. Louis, IL, he was the son of Harry Commodore and Olive Ester (Thomas) Hill.  Doug served with the U.S. Army in Korea and Vietnam and retired after 23 years.  He was a member of St. Matthew Methodist Church in Belleville.  He retired from Prairie Farms Dairy as an office manager.  He married the former Dorothy Jean York.  She preceded him in death.  He married Peggy Jo Ingle on October 23, 1976.  She also preceded him in death.  Surviving are six children, Jim Hill, Ken Hill, Tyann Clouatre (Kevin), Kim Kramer (Joe), Amy Hill, Chris Gooden (Olen), Cindy Scott, David Cutright, and Angie McLendon.  Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and a brother, Seth Hill of Sterling, IL.  He was preceded in death by two brothers Harry and Ronnie and a sister, Ollie.  Visitation will be from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home followed by graveside services at 1:00 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.  Memorials may be made to St. Matthews Methodist Church in Belleville.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
