George Daniels

George Clinton Daniels, 79, died suddenly at 11:59 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2017 at his residence.He was born in Kane on March 9, 1937, the second of eleven children born to Everett and Emma (Isringhausen) Daniels.Along with his siblings, George grew up in Kane, and attended Kane Grade School, as well as Jersey Community High School.  In 1953, he began working at the young age of 16 for Owens-Illinois Glass Manufacturing in Alton.He married the former Coleen Ramsey on Sept. 13, 1958 at the Rosedale United Methodist Church, and were just married a short time, before he entered the U.S. Army in 1960, where he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.  He was soon sent to Germany where he was stationed at the Ray Barracks Post in Friedburg,and served as an APC-Armored Personnel Carrier Drive, and remained in Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall.After his discharge in 1962, George returned home to his family as well as to his job at Owens-Illinois where he remained for nearly 30 years prior to the plant closing.  He then went on to seek employment at Olin Corp. in East Alton, where he remained for 14 years prior to his retirement in in July 2000.Together with Coleen, his wife of 58 years, he raised his three children in Rosedale until moving to White Hall after the Flood of 1993.  He was a member of the Kane Baptist Church, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and did his best not to miss a game.  He also enjoyed listening to older country music, collecting model cars, and spoiling his precious cats, Molly and Sugar.  George was never short of a good story, and particularly enjoyed recollecting childhood stories of his family and their many antics growing up in Kane, and he was anxiously awaiting the birth of his second great grandson.Surviving are his wife, Coleen Daniels of White Hall; two daughters & sons in law, Lynn & Robert Cox and Bonnie & Ed Foley all of White Hall; a son and daughter in law, Tony & Karen Daniels of White Hall; five grandchildren & their spouses, Lance Foley of Springfield, Brittney and Robbie Jasper of Washington, Mo., Jessica and Ben Stetson of White Hall, Matthew and Allie Seats of Bradley, and Jacob Rachal of White Hall; a great grandson, Myles John Seats; a special niece and her husband, Becky and Jim Currier of Jacksonville, and a great nephew and his wife, Bradley and Cayla Goodman of Roodhouse.George is also survived by his beloved brothers and sisters along with their spouses, Loretta and Floyd Drake, Kimberly Roberts, Sharon Acree, Clifford and Geri Daniels, Robert and Donna Daniels, and Raymond Daniels all of Jerseyville, and Leo "Woody" and Lois Daniels of Alton; a brother in law, Michael Lay of Columbia, Mo.;  along with many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Arlene Daniels; a brother, Richard Daniels; and three sisters, Judy Ann Daniels in infancy, Camilla Waltrip and Nevada Lay.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday at the Kane Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Keene officiating.Burial will be in the Kane Cemetery with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military rites.Memorials may be given to the physical therapy department at White Hall Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
