Lois Reidt Monroe, 87, passed away at 2:20pm on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Robings Manor in Brighton. She was born on October 19, 1929, in Alton, the daughter of the late Leroy and Cecile (Campbell) Taynor. She married Gerald Monroe in 1974 and he preceded her in death in 2005. Survivors include one son: Rick Reidt of Godfrey who will miss her dearly, two nephews: Dave Taynor of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lee Taynor of Godfrey, two nieces and their husbands: Cheryl and Dennis Wilschetz of Moro, Linda and Kris Singh of Naperville, Illinois and a sister in law: Clara Taynor of Moro.
She was formerly employed at Olin Winchester for many years working in the powder mill. Later, she was employed and then finally retired from the Hutchinson Company in Alton. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. She had such passion of life in everything she did. In her younger years, she was a very accomplished bowler having won numerous singles titles and awards, her bowling team won the championship of the St. Louis Area Bowling Association four years in a row and she was sponsored to the National Amateur Bowling Association Championships in 1973 and 1974. She was also an extremely talented crafts maker and known to many as one of the finest in that art.
Her love of all animals was evident when she and her father years ago would take in injured wildlife and nurse them back to health for release. Later in life one of her greatest joys was her little charmer, a shih tzu “Punkin” who she loved and cared for so dearly.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother: Charles Taynor, and one nephew: Mike Taynor.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In celebration of her life, private family services and inurnment will be held at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
