Robert “Bob” H. Jones, 90, died at 5:00 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2016 at his home. Born November 1, 1926 in Alton, he was the son of Cyrus and Dorothy (Hunt) Jones. Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Merchant Marines and Coast Guard during WWII. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1945. He retired from Owens Illinois Glass Company in 1983 as a quality assurance supervisor and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. On November 25, 1948 he married the former Betty Marie Howard. She preceded him in death on February 3, 1985. He married Virginia (Canady) Nolan on September 9, 1987. Mourning the passing of a devoted husband, father and grandfather are his wife Virginia, a son, Barry Jones (Addie) of Bridgeton, NJ, a daughter, Brenda Weston (John) of Indiana, PA, step children, Jerry Nolan (Doris) of Bunker Hill and Dan Nolan (Kay) of Monmouth, IL and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with his parents and first wife he was preceded in death by a son, Brian Dale Jones, a granddaughter, Shannon Marie Jones, a brother, Walter C. Jones, and a sister, Patricia Helen Jones. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton and will continue from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2016. Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate. Burial will be at Brighton Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to Gideons International.
