Eugene Yost

Eugene Joseph “Jiggs” Yost, son of William & Venda (Miller) Yost, of Alton went to heaven at the age of 91.After high school Eugene served as a Marine during WWII in the Pacific including, landing on Iwo Jima after it was captured and occupying Japan. Eugene was married to Mary “Kit” Emons and is survived by their four children, John (Martha) Yost, Jim (Julie) Yost, Jeanne (Perry) Hill and Karen (Jeff) Fleming and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.Eugene will be remembered by all his family and friends as a caring person who loved to listen to all they shared, sometimes responding with his quick wit and always loving unconditionally.Eugene enjoyed working with his buddies as a lather in the construction industry.  After retiring from that field he was blessed to work alongside his sons at Twin Rivers Distributing serving in an essential role that he uniquely filled. In his later years he was most happy spending time with his family and throughout his life found special joy in time spent with the little ones. Jiggs enjoyed music and dancing and played the bass with a group of friends at different venues just after the war.  He also enjoyed gardening especially harvesting and delivering his tomatoes to his family.  He enjoyed planting in his yard and even added some trees throughout his neighborhood at the streets edge in keeping with the Middletown tradition.Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home on State St. in Alton with Chaplain Jason Pierce officiating.  A family burial at Upper Alton Cemetery will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.  Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice, # 1 Professional Way, Suite 180, Alton, IL 62002.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
