Betty Emons

Betty Jayne Emons, 95 went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. with her family by her side.  She was born on September 17,1921 in Marissa, Illinois and grew up in Sparta, Illinois.  She was the daughter of Ralph and Beatrice (McCurdy) Emons.  She had one brother, Dean Emons and he preceded her in death in September 2015.Betty moved to Alton to attend Shurtleff College.  She was a lab technician for Alton Memorial Hospital for many years.  Upon retirement she became a florist.  Betty attended 1^st Presbyterian Church and was extremely active there. Betty’s many gifts included providing the church will beautiful floral arrangements from her back yard.  Betty loved to read, she loved dogs and cats, and had an appreciation for art and owned many pictures.  Betty loved to share her blessings, either with a loving thank you note or a note of happiness and anyone that knew her were blessed to receive these sweet sentiments.She is survived by one niece and three nephews.  She is also survived by cousins, Carolyn (Emons) Hinton in Santa Rosa, CA and Shirley Emons of Godfrey.  She has numerous second cousins and extended family from the Emons/Yost family.  She grew especially close to her second cousin, Chrissy (Emons )Peuterbaugh in the last years of her life. 

A memorial service will be held at 1^st Presbyterian Church, 4^th and Alby Streets, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016.  The Rev. David Crowley will officiate this service in the chapel.  Memorials may be made to 1^st Presbyterian Church.  Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
