Stanley Walkington

Stanley E. Walkington, age 80, of Alton, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016, at Integrity Healthcare in Godfrey.

He was born December 3, 1935, in Alton, the son of Glen and Nora (Brubaker) Walkington. He married Barbara Kohler on November 19, 1954, in Alton, and she survives.Stan was an Alton Police Officer and retired in 1986. He served with the Alton Police Benevolent Association, as well as the Alton Police Youth Camp. Stan was the designated Alton Park and Recreation ARC officer in the seventies. He was an avid sportsman and a lifetime member of the Alton-Wood River Sportsmens Club. Stan enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, fishing, and gardening. His entire life was devoted to his wife and family. Stan was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ.In addition to his wife, Barbara; he is survived by four children and their spouses, Linda and Michael Fergurson of Alton, Carrie and John Welshofer of Plano, TX, Dane and Paula Walkington of Prairietown, and Dawn and Travis Boyter of Doyline, LA; thirteen grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Delmar Walkington; and a sister, Winnifred Young.Visitation will be held Monday, October 24, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel with his grandson, Andrew Fergurson, officiating.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, or to the Alton Police Benevolent Association.Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Online condolences and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
