East Alton—Kathleen Tovo, 93, passed away at 2:12 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 at Bethesda Dilworth Skilled Nursing in St. Louis.
Born Nov. 5, 1922 in Pinckneyville, Ill., she was a daughter of Clarence and Nellie (Davis) Morgenthaler.
She married Armando “Hank” Tovo Nov. 6, 1943 in Columbus, Ga. He preceded her in death Oct. 31, 2005.
Kathleen was a saleswoman for W.T. Grant’s and Famous-Barr. She was a member of the Altar Society of the former St. Kevin’s Catholic Church and now Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River. She also was a member of Alton VFW Post #1308 Auxiliary and the Lady Birds Golf League with the Putt-Aways. She was an avid lover of butterflies.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Tovo of St. Louis; a son, Gerald Armand (Kathy) Tovo of St. Louis; 2 grandchildren, Jerry Tovo, Jr. and Jim Tovo, both of St. Louis; and 2 great grandchildren, Kelsea and Jessie; a sister, Josephine Apel of Brighton; brothers, Charles Ingram, and Kennon Ingram, both of Alton, and Dallas Ingram of Brighton; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Ingram of Brighton.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Christina Peterman and Juanita Pfaff; and four brothers John F. Smith, Walter Ingram, Sidney Ingram and Clarence Morgenthaler, Jr.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26 at Paynic Home for Funerals. Father Donald Wolford will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be given for masses or to the charity of one’s choice.
