Verda Woolfolk

Verda DeEllyn Nicholson Woolfolk, age 69, of Edwardsville, Illinois departed this life holding the hands of her daughter and son, as she was called into the loving arms of Jesus on August 22, 2016. DeEllyn (DeE) was born on January 25, 1947 in Highland, Illinois to the late Lucius and Winnifred (Shaw) Nicholson. She was a lifelong resident of Edwardsville, Illinois. She confessed her faith in the Lord at an early age. She was raised in faith at Wesley Chapel AME Church; where in earlier years, was a member of the Junior Choir and also taught Sunday School. She is the former wife of Clarence Woolfolk, together having a Daughter, Son and three Grandsons. Recently retired from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, DeE spent many dedicated years at the University where she developed many relationships with those who relied on her knowledge and professionalism for assistance. She often would say what she enjoyed most about her job was meeting students who would stop by her office needing directions, supplies, candy or advice. She was encouraging to others and always willing to help anyone in need. Her greatest joys in life were her two children and her “babies” the Grandsons who she adored immensely and was so proud of. Her family was always her focus and priority. She was a board member of the Lincoln School Alumni Foundation and served on numerous committees. DeEllyn leaves to cherish her spirit and will be dearly missed by: Her Daughter Traci Woolfolk, Son Kevin (Nancy) Woolfolk, Grandsons Brooks Woolfolk, Jeremy Spiller and Logan Woolfolk, Sister Teresa Nicholson Jones, Niece DeLynn Jones, Jason Jones and Great Niece Taylor Sansone Jones, Special Cousins Carolyn Turner, Lorraine Beamon, Harriet Lacy, Harvey Gardner, Lamont Nicholson, Helen Andrews, Dearest Friend Ernestine Hardin; as well as a host of numerous other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by a Grandson Gerald Jordan Spiller. Expressions of Sympathy to the family will be received Saturday, August 27th 2016, 10:00 a.m. until Noon at Weber and Rodney Funeral Home 304 North Main St., Edwardsville, Illinois.
