Eugene “Gene” A. Simon, 85, passed away at 9:15 am Friday July 22, 2016 at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab.
He was born on May 28, 1931 in Hardin, IL, the son of August H. and Beulah (Gotway) Simon.
Gene married Letha P. Caselton on November 14, 1951. She survives.
He worked for the US Fish and Wildlife Service and enjoyed being a grain and livestock farmer.
Gene was a member of St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Hardin and a member of the Hardin Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Denis (Merrill) Simon of Cumming, GA, William (Jacquie) Simon and Bob (Debbie) Simon, both if Hardin, and Joyce (Leonard) Fortschneider of Brussels; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one brother, Pete Simon of Hardin; two sisters, Phyllis Day of Champaign, IL and Yvonne Ringhausen of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Lou Albrecht and an infant daughter, Susan Simon.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday July 26, 2016 at Gress, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Wednesday July 27, 2016 at St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Hardin with Fr. Roy Bauer celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Norbert’s Cemetery in Hardin.
