James Lee Courto, 61, passed away 3:19 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at his residence.
Born January 12, 1955 in Wood River, he was the son of Albert J. and Patricia Ruth (Chapman) Courto.
He had worked as a deck hand and then 1st mate in the barge industry and later for Tinsley Steel.
He loved NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, Sr, collecting NASCAR items, birds, baskets and birdhouses. He enjoyed tinkering and "fixing things". He had numerous dogs in his life and he had a special relationship with each one, they were his babies.
He is survived by his brother, Allen R. Courto; three sisters, Cindy Fowler, Tina Skiff and Ruth Huntsman; six nieces and two nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, his body will be cremated. No services have been planned.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
