GREENFIELD – Rosalie M. (Narup) Hughes, 90, died peacefully at 1:30 a.m., Friday, June 17, 2016 at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center where she had been a resident for the past several months. She was born on September 14, 1925 in Batchtown, one of nine children born to the late Charles & Catherine (Mossman) Narup. Rosalie married Vernon East on July 2, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fieldon and together they shared in 28 years of marriage and made their home in Fieldon for a short time before moving to McClusky, where they raised their family. In 1969, Vernon’s job took them to Florida where they resided for several years before Vernon’s death on January 9, 1978. Shortly after Vernon’s death, Rosalie moved back to Jerseyville in 1981 and began working as a Bank Teller and Bookkeeper in East Alton, where she retired after nearly 10 years. It was then, that she met and eventually married Patrick “Pat” Hughes on January 23, 1988 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville and the two made their home in Greenfield for the duration of their 28 years of marriage.  Rosalie enjoyed spending time outdoors; fishing and working in her yard as well as time spent traveling to many destinations throughout her life, one of her favorites being traveling back to Florida. Above all else, Rosalie enjoyed time spent with her family – all of whom meant the world to her. Surviving are her husband, Pat Hughes of Greenfield; two daughters and a son-in-law,  Janice & Lynn Rimbey of Greenfield and Judy Russell of Jerseyville; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff & Janice East of Tallahassee, FL; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; four sisters, Irene Erwin of Jerseyville; Delores “Dode” Becker of Fischers, IN; Norma Glassbrenner of Plainview and Loretta Linenfelser of Jerseyville; as well as a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill & Dorothy East of Jerseyville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon East; two brothers, Leonard and Jerome Narup; two sisters, Vernetia Gullicksrud and Vera Dunham; and a son-in-law, Bob Russell. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father William Hembrow officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fieldon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home. Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
