Richard “Dick” Long, age 89 died at 9:10 am on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in White Pigeon, Michigan on April 2, 1927, the son of the late Joseph Willard and Mary (Breyfogel) Long. Richard was a WWII Navy veteran serving in the Philippines and Japan. He retired as a Display Director for Famous Barr in St. Louis after 25 years of service. On June 23, 1945 in Alton he married the former Ruth Leona "Lee" (Pelot). They enjoyed over 70 years of love and life together.

Richard is survived by his wife, Lee, a daughter, Janet Kaye Brehm (Erich) of Sunnyvale, TX and a son, Kenny Long (Kris Keil) of Florissant, MO, four grandchildren; Rebekah Angove of Luling, LA, Michael Long of Dixon, IL, Erich Brehm, Jr. of Houston, TX, and Christina Brehm of Los Angeles, CA and one great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Harold K. Long and Dale “Jake” Long.

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 5:00 PM on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be held there as well at 10:30 AM on Friday with Rev. Jerry Mecaskey officiating. Burial will be in Upper Alton Cemetery and memorials may be given to the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey.
