Genevieve “Jenny” M. Stewart, 86, passed away at 1:15 pm Sunday, September 6, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Brighton.
She was born on June 1, 1929 in Wood River, IL, the daughter of Russell and Marjorie (Fanning) Hosford.
She was formerly married to James W. Stewart. He passed away in 1995.
Jenny started working at Owens Illinois Glass at the age of 16 and was there for 38 years until they closed their doors. She took a year off and then went to work at Olin Corporation for 10 years until her retirement in 1994. She was a member of Hearts Harvest Fellowship in Bethalto. She enjoyed her church, the St. Louis Cardinals and most of all spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Phillip McElyea of Brighton; her grandchildren, Tori Marie McElyea, Jenna Denea McElyea, Scotty Stogsdill, Lisa Ward, Jay Ireland, Amanda Edwards and Savannah Boston and thirteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Donna Ireland, a son, James “Jimmy” Stewart, a granddaughter, Jenna Marie McElyea, a brother, Bud Hosford and two sisters, Sally Davis and Alberta Berthlett.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Friday, September 11, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Terry McKinzie officiating.
Burial will follow at Bethalto United Methodist Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Hearts Harvest Fellowship.
