Julius Depper

Julius M. "Pete" Depper, 81, died at 3:03 p.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton.

He was born in Grafton on June 7, 1931, and was the son of the late Edward & Lola (Ennis) Depper.

Pete served his country during the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Navy on the USS CA-133 Toledo, and after the war and his honorable discharge, he enlisted with the U.S. Air Force. He worked for many years in the 22 inch mill at Laclede Steel in Alton, retiring in 1991.

He married the former Jessie Moore on July 3, 1955 in Alton, and they recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.

Surviving are his wife, Jessie Depper of Piasa; a daughter & son in law, Carol & Mike Miller of Alton; a granddaughter, Jessica Odell of Alton; and a sister, Doris Denby of Gillespie.

He was preceded in death by his mother & step father, Lola & Albert Calame; his father & step mother, Edward & Lillian Depper; sisters, Betty Depper, Barbara Mitchell; and brothers, Paul, Harold & Robert Depper.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday. Rev. Lee Jackson will officiate.

Burial will be in the Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with the Alton VFW Post 1308 conducting military rites.
