Lester Edward Engelke, 89, went to be with the Lord at 1:19 pm on Friday, August 3, 2012 at his home.
He was born on September 11, 1922 in Prairietown, IL to Edward and Cora (Henke) Engelke.
He married Wilma Braasch on April 22, 1944 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown. She passed away November 25, 2011. They celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Lester was a proud farmer his entire life. He farmed the family homestead with the help of his wife and son. He was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown where he served as a Trustee and Treasurer for 20 years. Lester also served as a Trustee for Moro Township from 1993-2005.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Arlin) Schaefer of Prairietown; a son, Steven (Jeanette) Engelke of Prairietown; four grandchildren, Michelle (Tim) Goebel, Matt (Nikki) Schaefer all of Prairietown, Dr. Carla Engelke, O.D. of Tucson, AZ and Mark Engelke of Maryville; five great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, August 5, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue from 9:30 am until funeral services at 11 am Tuesday, August 6, 2012 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown with Rev. Dale Skeesick officiating.
Burial will follow at Prairietown Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
