Shirley Taylor 79, passed away at 9:50 pm Tuesday July 28, 2009 at Saint Anthony's Health Center with her family by her side.
She was born on March 11, 1930, in Alton. The daughter of the late John Barton and Minnie Mae (Lair) O'Donnell.
Shirley was formerly married to Charles L Taylor on June 27, 1947. He passed away on April 1, 1990.
She worked as a license practical nurse at St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton until she retired in 2002. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenfield, IL. Shirley went on a mission trip to Costa Rica with her church. She did Meals on Wheels for several years, she also sang in the church choir and helped arrange many church dinners.
Three daughter and their spouses Leslie and Phillip Larry Neilson of Fosterburg; Julie and David Meyer of Rosewood Heights; Amy and Kevin Cranmer of Brighton survive Shirley with eleven grandchildren Carly & Mark Reader; Blake & Tiffiny Gray; Melissa & Jason Moellering; Stephanie Meyer; Emily Meyer; Hannah Meyer; Adam Meyer; Mary Ellen Everitt; Brad & Edina Cranmer, Taylor Cranmer; Samantha Cranmer and seven great grandchildren Kaytlin Gray; Cameron Gray; Abbigail Gray; Annabelle Gray; Jacey Beth Moellering ; Evan Everitt; Colin Everitt and one sister Barbara Arnold of Alton.
In addition to her husband and parents, four sisters June Landon; Margie Griesbaum; Irene Woods and Norma McClure also preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday July 30, 2009 at Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton and 10 am until Funeral Service at 11am Friday July 31, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Greenfield , IL with the Rev. George Rosales officiating .
Burial will follow at Union Cemetery Greenfield, IL.
