Ornan Young

Kane |

Ornan E. "Buzz" Young, 84, died Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Illinois.

He was born in Greene County, Illinois on June 10, 1938, and was one of five children born to Robert Lee and Sylvia (Long) Young.

Buzz married the former Betty L. Dixon on July 20, 1958 in Jerseyville and together they were blessed with 63 years of marriage, prior to her death on February 4, 2022. Together, Buzz and Betty built a life centered around their family, love and faith.

From an early age, Buzz learned the value of hard work, and some might say that work was his hobby. He was a lifelong farmer, and most everything he did, his wife Betty, was by his side, whether it was owning and operating B&B Cafe in Kane, or hauling lime, fertilizer or rock for area farmers and residents.

When he wasn't working, he found time to dedicate his time as a trustee at Kane Baptist Church, Kane Village Board Member and Kane Cemetery Board Member.

He and Betty mowed Kane Cemetery for many years, and did so with impeccable attention to detail. They considered it a true honor to maintain the cemetery grounds for their community members and their families.

Through their married lives, Buzz and Betty were a true team. Through life's ups and downs, they remained committed to one another, their family, as well as their community.

He is survived by three daughters and sons in-law, Bessie Goodman of Jerseyville, Beverly and Mark Vanausdoll of Jerseyville, and Becky and Bill Jackson of Kane; five grandchildren and their spouses, Marissa and Dylan Griffith, Chris and Ashley Vanausdoll and Josh and Katie Vanausdoll all of Jerseyville, Andrew Vanausdoll of St. Charles, Missouri and John Ryan Goodman of Minneapolis, Minnesota; as well as eleven Great Grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers in-law, Lovetta "Sue" and Harold Kirchner and Vera and Gary Tribble; and two brothers and sisters in-law, Leancle and Hazel Young and Earnest "Jim" and Marjorie Young.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Baptist Church, where he was a loyal and dedicated member. Rev. Joel Lohr will officiate.

Burial will take place in Kane Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Kane Baptist Church or Kane Cemetery.
