Roger Foiles

Carrollton |

Roger Duane Foiles, 81, died at 8:25 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, with his family at his side.

He was born in Kampsville, Illinois on April 8, 1941, the fifth of six sons born to Jacob Cecil and Carrie (Brangenberg) Foiles.

His family moved to Carrollton when he was two years of age, and he graduated in 1959 from Carrollton Community High School and served his country with the United States Army.

Born into a farming family, Roger learned early on the value of hard work and truly exemplified the meaning of entrepreneurship. Remaining true to his agriculture roots, Roger operated Foiles Fair Acres in Greene County and expanded his adventure into retail. He owned and operated Foiles Customs in Carrollton, where he specialized in custom sign work, truck seats, and Amish Furniture. He would eventually expand his furniture store into both Springfield and Grafton, Illinois.

He possessed a kind and generous spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand or extend to his loyal customers his "cousin" discount. He thoroughly enjoyed and treasured the relationships he possessed with his customers and vendors, and felt truly blessed to be given the opportunity.

In his early years, he enjoyed drag racing in White Hall, Alton, and Wentzville, Missouri, and continued his passion for restoring and collecting antique cars, throughout his entire life.

He was a founder of Believers Baptist Church in Carrollton, serving for many years as a Deacon.

His marriage to Barbara J. Prough took place on July 14, 1968, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Carrollton, and together they shared 55 years of a blessed marriage.

Surviving is his wife, Barbara Foiles of Carrollton;  a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Natasha Foiles of Chatham; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie and Keith Schoonover of Rochester and Janie and John Brady of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Jacob, Jordyn, Caleigh, and Allison; as well as Grandpa to numerous fur babies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond, Edgar Ralph, Robert, Gerald, and Ronald Foiles.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Thursday, until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at Believers Baptist Church in Carrollton, with Rev. Jason Valetin and Rev. Don Staton officiating.

He will be laid to rest in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Eldred, where the Tri-County Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.

Memorials may be given to Believers Baptist Church in Carrollton.
