Edna Short

Edna Cora Short, 84, died at 11:55 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Willow Rose Rehab & Health Care Center in Jerseyville.

She was born in Jerseyville, Illinois on October 9, 1937, and was the daughter of William Charles and Cora (Legate) Schaaf.

Edna was the cornerstone of her family, whom she loved immensely.  She possessed a quiet, unassuming demeanor, but she could be counted on in every aspect for her family.   In their opinion, she was the best cook and baker, and her yard depicted her love of flowers.

Edna loved children, and in 1972, began watching children in her home on Roberts Street in Jerseyville.  For 47 years, Edna showered her children with love, compassion, and discipline, being rewarded with the trust of caring for several generations of the same families.

She married her best friend in life, Edgar Short, on April 13, 1957, at the Bethel Baptist Church in Jerseyville, and together they have shared life's ups and downs for the last 65 years.

Surviving are her husband,  Edgar Short of Jerseyville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Terry and Carolyn Short of O'Fallon and Martin Short of Jerseyville; four grandchildren and their spouses, Travis and Ashley Short of Shiloh, Faith Short of O'Fallon, Erik and Allicyn Short of Grovetown, Ga., and Zachary Short of Jerseyville; three great-grandchildren, Braxton Short, McKenna Short, and Yadier Short; a sister, Joann Cunningham of Jerseyville, and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Naomi Foolarri of Longview, Wa., Gary and Linda Short of Godfrey, Greg and Karen Short of Jerseyville, Shirley Short Sills of White Hall.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Cathy (Ray) Short; an infant brother, Billy Schaaf; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary and James Hayes, John David Short, Paul Cunningham, Jane (Tapen) Short; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louie and Leoria (Gilman) Short.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church in Jerseyville, with Rev. Joel Lohr officiating.

Burial will be in the Fieldon Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Bethel Baptist Church in Jerseyville, where she had been a long-time and faithful member.
