Irene Merle Dawson, 88, of Carlinville passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Heritage Health in Gillespie.
She was born on July 2, 1933 in Olney, IL to Carl and Jelia Schahrer. Irene married Hubert “Nails” Dawson on January 24, 1959, in Carlinville. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2000. She came to Carlinville in 1958 to work as a bookkeeper at Prairie Farms Dairy. She owned Irene’s Clothesline in Carlinville for many years.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Carol Dawson of Gillespie, son Dan (Christine) Dawson of Renton, WA, grandson Jacob (Ashley) Koniak of Taylorville, great-grandchildren Allyson and Madelyn Koniak of Taylorville, and several nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Dawson, companion Dave Smith, parents, brother Loy Koertge, sister Neva Butcher, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
A public graveside service will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Carlinville, IL on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 1:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Association.
