Shane Phillip Tate, Jr., age 28 of Freeburg, IL, born January 8, 1993 in St. Louis, MO, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Saint Louis University Hospital.

Shane was a 2011 Triad High School graduate.  He had worked at various places including Casey’s General Store, Entertainment Company in Marine, The Hershey Company, and most recent at 111-Salvage Company.  He was a former participant in the Re-enactment of the Illinois Territorial Rangers War of 1812, an avid fisherman, enjoyed hiking and loved his furry friends.  Shane had an infectious smile and a big heart.  He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother, Betty Gregory; maternal great-grandfather, Charles Maedge, Sr.; paternal grandfather, Samuel Tate; and paternal step-grandfather, Carol Lanhan.

He is survived by his maternal great-grandmother, Patricia Maedge; maternal grandparents, Chuck and Cindy Maedge; paternal grandmother, Marjorie Tate; parents, Shane Phillip Tate, Sr. and Tara Lynn (nee Maedge) Selders; a sister, Anna Tate; brother, Lucas Schmerbauch; niece, Onyx Brand; aunt, Sara (Jonnie) Fethering; uncle, Chuck (Amanda) Maedge III; numerous cousins; furry companions, Dirk and Hazel; and many friends.

Shane was cremated and private services will be held.

Memorials may be made in Shane’s honor to Saint Louis University Hospital, Mid America Transplant or Metro East Humane Society.  Please make check payable to the organization and mail to the funeral home at 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
