Phyllis Ann (Shriver) Gibson, 86, of Sawyerville, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on January 25, 2021. Born in Harrisburg, Illinois, on February 11, 1934, to the late George Fay and Margaret Caroline Shriver, she was the youngest of four children.
Phyllis’ two brothers, George Shriver and Charles “Ozzie” Shriver, and sister, Novella (Shriver) Droit preceded her in death.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Don Gibson, and seven children: Phillip Stiff of Johnston City, Illinois; Dena (Albert) Beard of Franklin, Indiana; Cathy (Steven M.) McFarlane of Benld, Illinois; Nanda (Jeff) Parsons of New Haven, Missouri; C. Daniel (Brenda) Gibson of Jefferson City, Missouri; Cynthia Caroline (Robert) Tedesco of Covington, Louisiana; and Tony (Jennifer) Gibson of Sharon, Wisconsin.
To her 23 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren (with one on the way), she was “Granny” and Granny, as well, to many others who knew and loved her. For many years of family life, Phyllis enjoyed cooking, sewing, vegetable and flower gardening.
She liked country music and trips to Branson. For decades she and Don ministered to children through the Awana program at a church in Bunker Hill, Illinois. Phyllis was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gillespie, Illinois, where she especially enjoyed chatting with and encouraging young moms.
Her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were recipients of her welcoming warmth and love, often expressed in her well-planned, wonderful meals. Her family will cherish fond memories of walks in her flower gardens, talks, times of laughter and get-togethers.
Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie, Illinois, is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, Illinois. Private family graveside services will be held with Pastor Jared Depoppe officiating.
