Raymond Scott "Scotty Ray" Thompson, 58, of Roodhouse, died at 2:55 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2020, at his residence surrounded by family and friends after a short battle with cancer.He was born in Somerset, Kentucky on April 2, 1961, one of three children born to Raymond and Gladys (McCoy) Thompson.Scotty Ray grew up in New Castle, Indiana, and was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Leslie and Alice Thompson., and remained there until relocating to Roodhouse at 31 years of age.He was a welder by choice and worked at Illinois Paving in Florence, Il., as well as various shops in the area.  He was also well known to come to the aid of numerous area farmers, heading out to the farm fields whenever their equipment would break down.He was a charismatic, free-spirited, social butterfly, who just loved being around people in general, and took great pride in his welding trade.He and the former Lacey Mielke have spent the last 20 years together, being blessed with a son.  The two married on July 3, 2014, in Carrollton.Surviving is his wife, Lacey Thompson of Roodhouse; a son, Scotty Ray Thompson at home; a sister, Paula Crook of Brush, Colorado; and a brother, Richard McCoy of Kentucky.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday.  Family friend, LyndalSonneborn will officiate.He will be laid to rest in the White Hall Cemetery in White Hall, Illinois.Memorials may be given to his family in care of the funeral home.Memories may be shared at crawfordfunerals.com.
