PIASA  -  Jessie M. Depper, 82,  went to her eternal home at 6:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family.She was born in rural Jersey County on January 5, 1935, the youngest and  last surviving of eight children born to Charles Wesley and Rose Enos (Frank) Moore.Growing up on a farm just outside of Medora, Jessie was instilled with the value of hard work, honesty and love of nature  Throughout her entire life, Jessie enjoyed anything that had to do with the outdoors, whether it was taking care of and loving on animals, gardening, or her favorite pastime, mushrooming.She also knew what hard work was as well, and spent most of her adult life doing so.   She worked in the kitchen at the Blackhawk Restaurant in Jacksonville, and also worked at the Owens-Illinois Glass Works in Alton.   The majority of her working career was spent with the Southwestern School District, where was a custodian for over 25 years at the Brighton North Elementary, retiring in 1994.She was also a devoted Christian, and split her attendance and love of Jesus between both the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Piasa and the United Pentecostal Church in Wood River.She married Julius M. "Pete" Depper on July 3, 1955 in Alton, and together they were blessed with a daughter, and later a granddaughter, and enjoyed 57 years of marriage, prior to his death on Oct. 3, 2012.Surviving are her daughter, Carol O'Dell Miller, and her husband, Michael of Alton; and her granddaughter, Jessica O'Dell of Alton; along with many loving nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, along with three brothers, Lloyd "Bud" Moore, Ernest Moore, and Charles Moore; and four sisters, Beulah Huff, Matilda Jane Szweda, IolaStoeckel and Julia Bormann.Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.  The Revs. John Shelton and Lee Jackson will officiate.She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.For those desiring, memorial donations in her honor may be give to either the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Piasa or to the United Pentecostal Church in Wood River.Jessie's family would also like to express the sincere appreciation to the Greene County office of BJC Hospice for the exceptional care provided.
