Fund-raising is an important part of any nonprofit organization's plan to stay afloat, and the YWCA of Alton is no different. The club has recently struggled financially, and a decision was made recently to put its building on 3rd Street up for sale. The asking price for the aging facility is $675,000
YWCA Executive Director Andrea Lamer says ideally, they would like to find a way to stay in the building. That could be done if someone were to buy the building and allow them to remain, or by gifting the building back to them. In the meantime, she says the "Y" is trying to offset costs by sharing its space.
She says if at some point they had to leave the building, the YWCA programs would continue with their community partners providing space for the various activities.
