Registration is underway for young hunters that want to take part in the Youth Pheasant Hunt at Pere Marquette State Park in Grafton in March. Geared towards hunters ages 10-15, there will be a day of instruction before the actual hunt.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesman Chris Young tells The Big Z this will give young hunters the basics they need to develop if they continue to participate in the sport when they become adults.

Modeled after the Youth Pheasant Hunt held in Sparta, young hunters will participate in a wingshooting clinic during the morning, taught by certified instructors. Young hunters will advance their skills while practicing safe shotgun handling and operation during the clinic. The pheasant hunt will take place during the afternoon.
