Something new has been added for this year's Illinois youth firearm deer season: an extra day. This customarily occurs Saturday and Sunday of Columbus Day weekend, but the state this year is adding the Monday holiday as well.
“These are things that, as an adult, you look back on, and you're happy to be able to share them with your children,” says Jeff Hopkins, a safety education administrator with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

People fifteen years old and under can get a deer permit for Oct. 12-14.
Hopkins encourages hunter safety education for everyone. A course is mandatory for the youth. A parent, grandparent, or guardian must accompany the young hunter.
